This is not an understatement. Luckily, since you do not have a toddler on your hands yet, this is easy to do with a tiny baby.

Labor is an exhausting process that can keep you wide awake until you feel delirious. When you bring a new baby home, you might go into super-parent mode immediately to care for them 24/7 without thinking about your own needs.

This is dangerous because sleep-deprived parents can cause accidents. Giving birth to a baby is a hectic, physically traumatic experience.

Therefore, you need your own time to cope with all the feelings and emotions post-birth.

Your body deserves a decent snooze to recover, and there is no way around it. To be the best parent, you must sleep.

The good news is that babies sleep a lot in that first week.

This does not mean that you should vacuum the children’s room while your baby is asleep.

White noise is very soothing to enhance a child’s slumber if you find the right sound that does not turn dreams into nightmares.

Heating Pads


Here’s a newborn hack that works well but you need to exercise caution.

Your newborn baby will crave being held all the time. The best part about being a new parent is that you are your baby’s entire world.

Tiny babies thrive on the sound of your warm chest as they nuzzle against you.

However, this can become less endearing when you are fatigued beyond repair. Unless you are an expert at running a household using only one hand, you need to have some space away from the little one.

The best thing to do is to buy an inexpensive heating pad to mimic your body’s heat.

When you need to put the baby down, you should use the heating pad first to warm the area.


Once you remove the heating pad, then you can tuck your baby in for a nap. They will be snoozing long enough for you to catch up on a bit of sanity.

Never leave the heating pad unsupervised near your child, and always switch it off after every use. Avoid using the highest setting, or it would make the area too warm. That is something you want to be extra cautious about.

Always check the area with your hand first to make sure the temperature is just right.


Baby Cues


Babies are tricky to raise. This is because it is harder to communicate with them than toddlers, who vocalize their needs all too well, especially when you want to sleep.

You need to quickly pick up essential baby cues during the first 30 days at home with your newborn.

For instance, you need to know when your baby is hungry if you want them to remain calm.

Check for signs like lip-smacking or licking. Babies also show tongue movements and start sucking on their hands when they have the munchies.

Then you need to drop everything to feed them immediately. If you do not pick up on these cues fast enough, a baby’s red-faced cries will send the message loud and clear for you to serve their meal.


Digestive Care


Newborn babies have a developing digestive system, which means they will go through some gassy discomfort.

It is possible to have a fixed feeding schedule and a smooth routine, but this takes time.

During the first few weeks, everything will seem erratic because your baby is literally learning to exist.

So you should not expect this to happen overnight. It’s unreasonable.

Changing Diapers


A newborn baby’s diaper should not be changed right after feeding. This is because your baby has a developing digestive system, so everything in their body feels displaced.

Their stomach is also tiny, so you can expect a ton of bowel movements immediately after a feeding session. It is always best to wait a while unless you want to go through entire packs of wet wipes to scrape feces off the walls during a single diaper change.

That’s not to say you should let your babe sit in a dirty diaper. If they go once just give them a few minutes to go again because they likely will.

The other problem is that the little one may spit up unwanted stomach acid if you do not give them more time to digest before laying them down on your changing station.

Give it between 5 and 10 minutes after feeding to change a diaper. This is not too long of a wait, so your baby should not get any diaper rash.
