Important Things to Do When You Find Out You Are Pregnant

what to do when you find out you're pregnant

Make a Prenatal Appointment with a Gynecologist

The first thing you need to do is book an appointment with your doctor.

In most cases, the first prenatal visit is between 8 to 10 weeks. Sometimes up to 12 to 14 weeks depending on where you live and who your Doc is.

It’s very important that you pick your doctor carefully and read reviews from past patients.

You need to make sure you and your Doc are on the same page with beliefs and philosophies.

It really sucks to become invested with a Doc and later find out they don’t respect your ideas around pregnancy and birth.

I know this from experience.

So check Google reviews and interview them as well when you go in. If you find that you and your Doc don’t mesh well you still have time to get an appointment with another.

what to do when you find out you're pregnant

Start Taking Prenatal Vitamins

While waiting for your next appointment date, you should definitely begin taking multi-nutrient prenatal vitamins.

These supplements contain vitamins and minerals crucial for your overall well-being – such as vitamin C, Zinc, Copper, and Magnesium, etc.

Make sure that you’re consuming high-quality supplements that contain a reasonable ratio of all important vitamins and minerals.

Once you see your doctor they may give you a prescription prenatal especially formulated for you and your baby.

But until then you should take a high-quality vitamin like this one.

Likewise, refrain from using vitamin A or Retinol supplements separately because excessive vitamin A consumption during pregnancy can harm a baby.

Consume Folic Acid till You Become 12 weeks Pregnant

In addition to taking multivitamins, you need to make sure you’re taking folic acid during the first trimester of pregnancy.

It is known to prevent major birth defects of the brain and spine in the baby.

Start consuming 400 micrograms of folic acid every day for 12 weeks. Don’t wait till your first appointment, otherwise, it can be too late.

You may think about consuming it only through a natural diet, but it is difficult to consume this much folate from diet alone.

So, it’s best to consume it through supplements to fulfill your body’s folic acid needs.

Note: For the ones having a history of neural-tube or brain development defects in the family, doctors often recommend taking higher doses of folic acid i.e. 5 milligrams. If it is the case with you, consult a professional as soon as possible, and mention it explicitly during your checkup so your doctor can recommend the appropriate precautionary measures.

Track Your Symptoms & Document Your Pregnancy

As you move further into the first trimester of your pregnancy you may start to have morning sickness, indigestion, nausea, and cramps in your body.

Relax!  These are some of the common pregnancy symptoms that happen to the majority of pregnant women in the first trimester.

Keeping track will help you ask appropriate questions and get the best health care advice from your Obgyn.

You can also buy pregnancy journals that are available online like this one.

Dozens of pre-written questions help you log your condition precisely.

You can also get my free pregnancy journal below. Just add your email and you can get it right away.

If you consider writing a journal for every pregnancy, you’ll be amazed how each pregnancy can be so completely different from another. It’s fun to look back and see how they differed.

Along with writing stuff don’t forget to capture plenty of pretty pregnancy pics so you can add them to your journals.

Focus On Your Nutrition

In the past, you may not have been that conscious about your diet before but you now have the responsibility of feeding that tiny sweet babe that’s growing inside of you as well.

So, you need to focus on your nutrition needs.

You need to eat nutrient-dense foods that nourish both you and your baby.

For instance, to fulfill your body’s increased calcium and iron needs, increase the intake of dairy products – milk, yogurt, and cheese, etc.

Likewise, for high-quality protein intake, lean meat and eggs are good to consume.

As far as diet is concerned, potassium is recommended for pregnant women suffering from leg cramps. You can consume potassium enriched fruits such as bananas and avocados.

There are some foods to avoid as well. Let’s take a look at the most common ones.

  •  Excess caffeine is associated with poor fetal growth and low birth weight. If you are a coffee person then restrict caffeine intake to under 200 mg per day.
  • Likewise, alcohol intake should be completely avoided. Because it can severely affect the baby’s brain development.
  • Stop consuming junk foods as well. They can put on unnecessary weight which leads to pregnancy complications.

Exercise Regularly

You can prepare for birth and healthy delivery through regular exercise.

Walking, jogging, low-intensity weight training, and parental yoga poses are good in this regard.

These stretches and exercises help create a flexible body and fast delivery.

In addition, you should pay special attention to strengthening your pelvic floor through recommended exercises.

This will help you cope with growing baby weight. The key here is to start slow but stay consistent.

Download A Pregnancy App

There are some great pregnancy apps that can help you track your symptoms and keep you informed on all you need to know.

‘ What to expect ‘ has a good one called Pregnancy And Baby Tracker.

These apps will help you stay educated about your body changes and baby development stages.

Likewise, there are fitness apps specifically designed for mommy-to-be.

They help you to explore recommended exercise poses. These apps are also packed with useful tips to keep your pregnancy healthy.

There’s a good one called Baby2Body you should check out.

Though these apps are helpful, you shouldn’t rely on them solely. Nothing can replace going to your Obgyn and getting regular checkups.

To Wrap It Up

There are lots of things you need to do when you find out you’re pregnant and this list is just a start.

You should keep practicing these recommendations till your first prenatal care visit.

After that, your Doc will provide you with further recommendations for your particular circumstances.

Happy pregnancy and we wish you luck!

How to Pinpoint Ovulation for a Faster Pregnancy

How to Pinpoint Ovulation for a Faster Pregnancy

Knowing when you are most fertile and likely to get pregnant is never easy to pinpoint.

But the most crucial part of getting pregnant is knowing how to get the timing right. Statistically speaking, It usually takes approximately six to eight months to conceive.

Even then supposedly, a lot of people only have up to a 50% chance of succeeding in that given time frame.

But they seem to be low-balling that number in my opinion.

My experience and studies have shown me that the chances of success are higher.

Although you should not be too focused on achieving fast results and should try to relax and have fun, here is a simple guide to help pinpoint ovulation for a speedier pregnancy.

How to Pinpoint Ovulation for a Faster Pregnancy

Track Your Periods

Is your menstruation cycle regular? And how many days have gone by between each period?

This is the essential information and the first step that everything depends on. If you are unsure whether your periods are regular and how long each cycle is, you should start the tracking process.

The first day you begin bleeding should be recorded as “Day One” until you get your next period.

This should be done for approximately three or four months if you want to accurately measure how long and regular your cycle is.

The average menstrual cycle should be 28 days long, but even 23 and 35 days in length are standard.

The number of days varies each month, so there is no need to be alarmed if you do not consistently record the same.

A good way to keep a record of your cycle is through the Clue App. I’ve used it for years and it’s extremely useful. It has helped me learn so much about my cycles and body.

Calculate Your Ovulation Days

Successful conception depends on having sex within a small window of time.

During this short period (pun intended), a ripened egg gets released from one of the ovaries and moves into your fallopian tube.

A really good way to begin identifying these days is with an ovulation kit. These kits are a bit like a pregnancy test. You just pee on a stick and it will tell you when certain hormones are at their peak indicating ovulation.

They are very useful when you want to get pregnant as quickly as possible.

Below are some things you need to observe if you want to get an idea of when you ovulate and what’s going on with your cycle.

  • Regular Periods

If your menstrual cycles are consistently regular, you can determine your ovulation days with simple mathematics. In the average cycle, your ovulation will occur 14 days before your period arrives. This can also be on day 14 of your 28-day cycle. Then you need to subtract 14 days from the length of your cycle. This should provide a brief guideline of when you are ovulating. For instance, if you have regular 30-day menstrual cycles, you will most likely ovulate around day 16. If your periods last for 26 days, you should be ovulating on day 12.

  • Irregular Periods

For those who experience irregular menstrual cycles, there are additional steps to determining an accurate ovulation picture. The most common technique is tracking your temperature. The best way to know if ovulation has occurred is when your regular or basal body temperature slightly increases. This thermal shift can be detected with daily temperature checks in the mornings and at night before going to bed. By doing this, you can witness a pattern to help predict when your exact ovulation days are. Usually, your temperature can increase up to half a degree around 24 to 48 hours after ovulation. A basal body temperature thermometer may be more effective than using a regular one. This way, you can see the time your basal body temperature rises to know how short your conception window is, especially when sperm is waiting in the fallopian tube for the egg’s release.

Must Read:

Another option is to use an ovulation prediction kit, as I mentioned before. This is more costly than doing temperature checks, but you can track your ovulation dates and times very accurately. You can find these in any regular drugstores, and they measure levels of luteinizing hormone in your urine. Therefore, you will need to take a urine test on a tester stick. When your luteinizing hormone levels go up, this is when your ovaries are ready to release the egg for a fast conception.

how to predict ovulation while trying to get pregnant

Changes in your cervical mucus are another low-tech method to monitor fertility.

Although these will not pinpoint your ovulation period as accurately as a prediction kit, you can still get a general indication of whether you are fertile or not.

When your body prepares to ovulate, you will produce excessive thin and clear mucus, paving a smoother path for sperm to link with the egg.

You will notice that your vaginal mucus looks and feels slippery like raw egg whites on your most fertile days that are right before ovulation.

After ovulating, the mucus will go back to become thicker before it slowly dries up.

The best way to do a mucus check is by collecting a sample gently on toilet paper by wiping the vaginal opening. If you do this numerous times a day and do not see enough mucus, you are probably not in the fertile period.

When to Have Sex

Most medical professionals recommend having regular sex approximately 1 to 5 days before ovulating.

If you start having sex during the ovulation period, it may already be too late.

Then you should also continue getting down to business the day after ovulation. This is because sperm can easily survive up to five days inside your body, while an egg’s lifespan is only a maximum of 24 hours.

Therefore, having intercourse before ovulating and doing it again the day after will skyrocket your chances of getting pregnant.

Even though several articles suggest the best sex positions for fast pregnancies, there is no guarantee.

When you pinpoint ovulation correctly, your chances are high no matter which sexual position you use.

It is best to do what comes naturally without stressing about getting pregnant if you have successfully tracked your ovulation window.

If you are under the age of 35 and cannot get pregnant despite having timed your ovulation and intercourse windows after trying for six months, you should visit your doctor for a fertility evaluation.

We wish you luck and joy on your TTC journey!!

If you’ve been on birth control for a while you need to give it some time.

A good rule of thumb is to get off of the pill three months before trying to conceive if you have been on it for less than a year, and six months prior if you have been on it for over a year.

It takes a good amount of time for your cycle to normalize after artificial hormones so be patient.

Make friends with your ovulation cycle.

Between a third and two-thirds of women under age 35 who are aware of their fertile time are able to conceive in their first month of trying ( assuming you haven’t been on birth control as stated above ).

The best way to do this is to use technology to really get a good picture of what’s going on.

You can find your most fertile time by using a fertility monitor, ovulation predictor kits (OPKs), charting, or (my personal favorite) all three.

Sometimes this can be trickier than it sounds – for example, traditional “line” OPKs can be difficult to interpret. Consider a digital test with a clear “yes” or “no” like the Clear Blue Easy Digital Ovulation Test. Then you’ll know exactly when to get busy.

If you’ve been having ovulation-focused sex for over three months and still haven’t conceived- don’t freak out!

Check out this post to give yourself a little more of a fertility boost.

Also, consider convincing your partner to get a quick and easy sperm analysis.  This “male factor” or sperm issue comprises nearly half of all fertility issues.

Adjust your diet for optimal fertility.

Incorporate fertility-boosting foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, soy foods, and olive oil.

Avoid trans-fats and partially hydrogenated oil, found in frosting and some baked goods.

These are so bad that the FDA just outlawed them! Food companies have 3 years to comply, so, for now, you have to police it yourself.

Take Your Vitamins

Many studies show that taking prenatal vitamins, such as folate and vitamin B6 increases your chances of getting pregnant quickly.

Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil) have been linked to better embryos in IVF and smarter babies overall.

There is also strong evidence that prenatal vitamins lower the chance of birth defects, so begin taking them immediately.

Use The Right Lubricant

Contrary to popular belief, having sex every day doesn’t lower sperm count, so feel free to have as much sex as you please, and enjoy it.

But, if you are dry, use Pre-Seed, a sperm safe lubricant developed specifically for couples who are trying to conceive.

Pre-Seed is properly pH balanced and isotonic to mimic a woman’s fertile fluids and optimize the journey for sperm.

Mimicking natural fertile fluids, it allows swimming sperm to move freely and its pH balanced to match fertile cervical mucus and the pH of sperm.

Cut the caffeine.

Non-smoking women who consume about 2-5 cups of coffee per day cut their fertility by 12 percent.

Consuming caffeine has an even worse effect on male fertility, where having 5 cups of coffee a day will cut his fertility in half.

An alternative to getting more energy?  Try getting a full eight hours of sleep- it will enhance your mood and your health.

easy steps to help you get pregnant

Soak up the sun!

Sunlight causes your skin to generate Vitamin D, which has been linked to fertility.

Sit outside for 15-30 minutes without sunscreen a few times a week in the afternoon. This will also help you sleep.

When you think you may be pregnant — the earlier you know, the better.

Several scientific studies and a Consumer Reports study showed that the First Response™ Early Result Pregnancy Test detects the smallest amount of the pregnancy hormone – so it can tell you sooner than any other test.

The sooner you know you’re pregnant, the sooner you can begin making healthy pregnancy choices for yourself and your baby that include: diet, nutrition and limiting your exposure to hazards.

You can’t get pregnant on just any day of the month.

This seems SO obvious, doesn’t it? But some simply don’t know that much about the menstrual cycle and fertility.

Education about ovulation, peak fertility, and “safe times” during the menstrual cycle is key.

This, of course, is not so easy if your cycles are irregular. If that’s the case, read this article and then read this one AND read this one They will help!

Women can learn a lot by charting their monthly cycles.

It’s amazing what your menstrual cycle can tell you when you are trying to conceive or prevent pregnancy.

Predicting ovulation doesn’t have to be complicated if you are in tune with your body.

By simply tracking basal body temperature and cervical mucus changes (with an app like Clue), women can have valuable information to plan their pregnancy.

As far as tracking ovulation, you can buy an awesome kit that will help you with this. This one also comes with a bunch of pregnancy tests so you can test obsessively at the end of the month if you want ( I know I did ).

Ovulation doesn’t always happen on Day 14.

It’s not uncommon to assume that conception occurs specifically at the moment of ovulation and that ovulation occurs on day 14 of your cycle like clockwork. Not so!

Many women ovulate at varying times from month to month especially when you’re irregular.

I would ovulate anywhere from day 10 to day 17 and I’m only one example. Testing with a kit like we talked about earlier is vital to a quick and easy pregnancy.

And one more thing…. you also don’t get pregnant as soon as you have sex, or at least not typically. The sperm often travels for days.

In fact, sperm can live up to five days in a woman’s body. The best time for intercourse is actually a few days before ovulation and a day or so afterward.

Some lubricants can have a negative effect on sperm motility.

Many common lubricants contain sperm-toxic ingredients, have the wrong pH or have high salt levels, all of which have may have a negative effect when trying to conceive.

Even saliva and water can kill sperm and should be avoided when trying to conceive.

Fertility friendly lubricants like Pre-Seed mimic cervical mucus to optimize fertility.

Pre-Seed’s isotonic and pH balanced formula supports sperm on their journey through the cervix to meet the egg.

It can even help women who have poor cervical fluid quality which can happen for a variety of reasons.

A surprising number of women will experience infertility, miscarriage, or both.

At least 1 in every 10 women will have significant trouble getting pregnant, and 1 in 5 will experience a miscarriage at least once.

These are emotional rollercoasters, to say the least. I know, I have been there.

If you do try for more than a few months you should test your hormones. You can get an at-home kit right here.

Life is full of uncertainty, but the relationships you form will be your source of strength if things don’t go as planned.

Coping with the anguish and emotion of miscarriage, no matter how early or infertility, is easier with support from your partner, friends, family, clergy and healthcare provider.

Community is vital and all can serve as lifelines when we face hardships. If you do face these challenges unexpectedly be sure to read this one and read this one as well.

I hope you found this interesting and informative. Stay educated, stay motivated and stay focused and your baby will be on its way in no time!

I wish you all the luck in the world getting pregnant! Enjoy the journey.

Baby Girl Symptoms during Early Pregnancy | 10 Signs You May Be Pregnant With A Baby Girl |

Many women swear that there are certain symptoms that will come with a girl pregnancy vs a boy pregnancy and I am one of them. I’ve had 3 babies, 2 boys, and 1 girl, and at least for me, there was a huge difference in the symptoms of both types of pregnancies.

Some say it’s an old wives tale that you can tell the difference but I believe there is some evidence that says otherwise, even a few studies I’ll link to.

I decided to write this post because I got such an amazing response to my post “How to get pregnant with a girl” ( Read it here ), so I thought I would write about the symptoms of being pregnant with a girl as an add-on.

We also have some pregnancy journals, Milestone Cards, And Closet Separators you can download and print a bit lower in the article, so look for that if you like nice things❣️

So what are the symptoms of having a baby girl in the womb? Read on to find out!

Baby Girl Symptoms During Early Pregnancy

Mood Swings

All pregnancies create dramatic mood swings. It’s the hurricane of hormones inside of you.

But it has been said many times by many women that if you’re feeling more depressed and generally more irritable then you may have a baby girl in the womb.

There are studies that do show a difference in hormone concentrations from males to females so this could be the reason that things can vary between the two.

Particularly, hCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone responsible for a positive home pregnancy test can be higher with female pregnancies and can remain that way throughout your entire pregnancy.

This could very well account for your extra moodiness among other things.

Morning Sickness

Terrible morning sickness can happen with either a boy or a girl, but there’s a study that does correlate higher levels of morning sickness with being pregnant with a girl.

Again, it’s that coming into play. Here’s the study if you want to have a look for yourself.  You can also read about how to control morning sickness really well right here.

Weight Gain

Another side effect of having a girl seems to be gaining more weight all around. This was very true for me.

I was belly only with both my boys. But in my third pregnancy with a girl, I had all the symptoms on this list and more. But I especially had more weight gain.

AFFILATE BANNERS

Some people may tell you that the things on this list are old wives’ tales but are they?

I believe they do have some truth in them. One of the reasons this may be true is that you also have higher oestrogen levels when you have a baby girl in the womb.

According to this study, in the first half of pregnancy oestrogen levels were around 9% higher for pregnancies when the baby was a girl, and progesterone levels were lower in the second trimester.

****Must Read:

Stress Levels

Stress levels can affect the sex of the baby as well. Based on this study there was a link between levels of the stress hormone cortisol and the male-to-female birth ratio.

This is related to stress levels before pregnancy though.

In the study, women with high levels of cortisol before conception were statistically more likely to have a girl.

No One wants to be extra stressed but If you are somehow you are more likely to have the girl you want, so at least there’s that.

Higher Heart rate

Can the heart rate predict your baby’s sex? Well, many say this is a myth and perhaps it is mostly but there does seem to be a correlation between a higher heart rate and having a girl, at least some of the time.

Can you depend on this method of prediction? Probably not, but it’s fun to try and notice the heartbeat and see if it turns out to be true for you.

There does seem to be a documented difference during labor when the female rate is considerably faster. So at least it holds true during this time, but I’m guessing by then you already know the sex of your baby.

Skin Acne

Skin Acne comes back down to those pesky hormones again. Women have elevated levels of certain hormones during pregnancy when pregnant with a girl.

This can cause more skin eruptions and painful cyst-like pimples on your face, especially around your chin area.

AFFILATE BANNERS

It’s unfortunate but there’s not much you can do about it since it’s hormonal. Just try not to pick.

Boob Size

Once again we’re back to hormones. The higher the levels of certain hormones the Sooner your breasts will balloon out and the bigger they’ll get. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Once you have your baby they’ll get even bigger when your milk comes in so be sure to wear a very supportive bra. You can learn how to prevent sagging while pregnant and breastfeeding in this article right here.  Here’s another post about firming them up after the whole ordeal is over.

Most of these are pretty good  Baby Girl Symptoms during Early Pregnancy. They can help you make a fairly good guess on whether or not you’re having a girl. After all, there’s a fifty percent chance you’re right!

Enjoy your pregnancy 😉
